AMD has a new IGP chipset and it is an evolution that will get a better IGP core in an improved version of AMD 790G chipset. We are talking about the mainstream chipset market where AMD expects to have new 785G ready for early Q3 launch.
The new IGP chipset has 500MHz GPU integrated but this time it´s DirectX 10.1 capable. Currently available, AMD 780G has DirectX 10 core clocked at the same 500MHz and UVD video engine 1.0.
The 785G will come with UVD2 video engine, HDMI capability and PCIe 2.0 support. The new chip stays within the 15W TDP and it interconnects with SB710 Southbridge. It should be slower than AMD's 790GX chipset but then again it will also cost less money.
AMD의 차세대 내장 그래픽 칩셋의 코드네임은 RS880이다. 이전의 칩셋과 비교했을 때 (새로운 칩셋인) Radeon HD 4200 칩셋은 성능이 15%까지 향상될 것으로 보인다. DirectX10.1을 지원하며, 성능향상을 위해 클럭설정을 약간 변경하였다. HD 4200은 3DMark06에서 1,800점을 기록하여 GeForce 6800GT, ATI X800XL 과 같은 수준의 성능을 보여주었다.
790G 내장 그래픽보다 나은 성능인데, 왜 785G로 이름을 지었는지... 아무래도 790G는 고급형 785G는 보급형이 아닐까 한다. 785G가 출시된 다음에 795G가 나올 가능성도 있다. RS880은 오는 8월에 출시될 것으로 예상된다.
